GOLF COURSE

One of California's best 9-hole golf courses can be found in the Kern River Valley. Located on the banks of the Upper Kern River just west of Kernville, the Kern Valley Golf Course is host to more than invitationals and pro-ams. With a country club atmosphere, you might want to plan your next party or wedding in the spacious clubhouse.

Besides being ranked as one of the best 9-hole courses in the state and noted for it's excellent greens, the golf course boasts a full bar/snack bar and a full kitchen restaurant, ready to cater to any planned banquet or party. They also serve lunch and other snacks for those hungry golfers after an exciting morning on the course.

That's not to say that the golf course is not about golf! Open from sunrise to sunset seven days a week year round (except Christmas Day), golfers can always get out and whack a few balls. Beginners can get advice from the onsite pro and the latest equipment can be purchased in the pro shop.

Open to the public, memberships for individuals and families can be obtained on a per month basis with an initiation fee. But you certainly don't have to be a member to enjoy the plush green setting of the land near the lake, one mile south of Kernville. Nonmembers may still golf for a minimal green fee.

The par 72, 6,200 yard course built 35 years ago by valley residents on land leased from the Forest Service, is host to many party animals. People have reported seeing deer, bear, bobcats and skunk - animals not so used to humans - on the course after hours.
